Due to the lack of flatland, the land plot of Daejeon University was prepared by cutting the hillsides since long time. All the existing buildings built on embankment after cutting of hillsides or filling of valleys were, of course, unnatural. The location of this center was in a valley. As such, it was, first of all, a priority to make the terrain remembered by creating an outdoor meeting place using the terrain which is 12m high from the bottom to the top. And also it was decided to create a new piece of land by making a deck for this university which lacks flatland. The project was divided into two parts: the lower part of the deck and the upper one. The lower part houses shared space such as meeting facilities, a dining room, an exhibition hall and a multi-purpose hall. The upper part on deck, a newly created piece of land, was assigned for 2 glass masses with class rooms. In order to make the character of the deck special, a large stairway in the middle of the deck with a gentle slope was made to serve as an amphi-theater. This stepped semi-outdoor place, capable of accommodating a whopping 1,000 people, allows the stage below to connect to the stage of the indoor multi-purpose hall for an integrated function. Of course, this amphi-theater reminding original topography can also be used for relaxation, small meetings or outdoor exhibitions on an everyday basis. Between two masses on the slightly-tilting deck, there are a small meeting stage, benches, and trees. It seems, therefore, that the deck looks like a park, plaza, or garden. People can access the deck on various routes. They can go up to the deck passing the balcony in front of the dining room along the sloping stairway used as the outdoor meeting place, or they can go up to the deck through the courtyard of the exhibition and meeting facilities. Alternatively, people can access these facilities through 2 glass boxes, or directly from the road going up the stairs. The floating deck above all levels of ground has not any special purpose, but it is used according to the will of users.
