충남도청사는, 1920-30년대 일제강점기시대 관청사 건물의 건축적 특징과 양식, 기능, 정치적 표상등을 드러내는 근대 역 사의 증거로 근대건축문화유산으로 지정되었으며 후대에 전해 야 하는 현대적 유적(Modern Remains)이다.

영어 Museum은 고대 그리스어 Museion에 그 어원을 두며, 이는 예술의 신인 뮤제를 위한 신전이었다. 신전은 우리의 삶이 지속할 수 있다는 믿음을 주는 시설이며 따라서 보물상자와 같 이 빛나 우리 모두에게 평화와 안식을 주는 소망의 건축으로 존재한다.

풍경의 의미를 땅과의 엄격한 관계에서 떠나 도시성에 대한 이 해의 전통에서 해석할 때만이 과학적 한계와 범주너머에 놓여 있는 실체를 발견할 수 있으며, 이는 총체적 인간의 존엄성을 수호하고 창조하는 예술의 궁극적 목표가 된다. 이를 문화풍경 (Culturescape) 라고 하자.

The Chungnam Provincial Office Building is a Modern Remains site that has been designated as a cultural heritage of modern architecture, serving as evidence of the architectural characteristics, form, function, and political symbolism of government buildings during the Japanese colonial era of the 1920s and 30s.

The word “Museum” originates from the ancient Greek “Museion,” which was a temple dedicated to the Muse, the goddesses of the arts. Temples are facilities that give us the belief that our lives can continue and therefore exist as architectural hopes that shine like treasure boxes, providing peace and rest to all of us.

The meaning of landscape can only be discovered beyond scientific limits and categories when interpreted through the tradition of urbanity, rather than the strict relationship between land and culture. This is the ultimate goal of art, which protects and creates the dignity of humanity as a whole. Let us call this a Culturescape.
